Major Achievements of WBEN

  • National Level: 350 members of WBEN participated and arrested during the Samsad Gherao Abhiyan from Ramlila Maidan of Delhi, which was organised by NAFRE in the year 2006.

  • WBEN had taken an enormous programme to build public awareness and mobilize people regarding 93rd Constitutional Amendment.

  • A State level Convention was organised on Right to Education in the year 2000. It was a successful and effective Convention in presence of the Speaker of Assembly, MPs, MLAs, Educationists, Political – Social – Cultural Activists, Journalists, Teachers, Guardians and Writers.

  • In the year 2002, more than Four thousand People were assembled at Sahid Minar, Kolkata under the banner of WBEN to protest against the cast and social discrimination among the children.

  • In the year 2004, on the eve of Parliament Election a mass campaign programme along with tableau was taken in Kolkata and Districts to highlights the issues of Child Rights and demand for priorities on child rights in the Election.

  • In the year 2005, Rally (National Mass Education Abhiyan) was organised demanding Common School System and people centric Education Bill covering 500 Villages of 14 Districts in West Bengal.

  • In the year 2006, a mass Rally was organised in Kolkata (From Mayo Road to Rani Rasmoni Avenue) against the Model Education Bill, 2006 and demanding Central Act after correction of the Bill along with the representatives of District Networks and other Networks.

  • In the year 2007, two days Eastern Regional Convention on “The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Bill” was organised along with National level Teachers Organisations and eastern Regional Forums of NAFRE.

  • In the year 2008, Jana Adhikar Yatra (Rally on People’s Rights) was organised. During the Yatra 24 Public meetings, 140 Street Corners, Cycle & Motor Cycle Rallys were organised at 737 Panchayats of 182 Blocks on Education, Health, Food Security, Public Distribution System, livelihood, Child Protection etc. to create public awareness. During the meetings leaflet, Hand Bill, Samapath (News letter of WBEN) distributed among the local people. Fourteen Press Conferences were organised in District level. At the end of Rally a mass meeting was held at Kolkata Metro Channel, almost 10, 000 people were gathered in the meeting.

  • A State level Consultation was organised along with Teachers Union, NGOs, Networks, Educationists, Writers, Journalist on Draft Education Bill.

  • In the year 2010 a Suggestive Draft Rule submitted to the School Education Department to implement the Right to Education Act, 2009 properly along with other organisations and Networks.

  • Organised several State level Consultations on Right to Education Act to implement the Act properly.

  • In the year 2011, actively participated in the Public Hearing on violation of RtE Act, 2009 organised by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

  • Village level Campaign on proper implementation of Right to Education Act were organised at 129 villages of 9 Districts in West Bengal. A study Report was also published on out of School Children which was identified during the village level campaign.

  • In the year 2012, Initiation taken and formed a Forum named “West Bengal Right to Education Forum” along with the other Networks to implement the RtE Act properly.

  • Participated in various National level Consultation on proper implementation of Right to Education Act

Village level campaign on proper implementation of RtE Act is running at 300 villages of 13 Districts of West Bengal.
